UOC president to take part in first Planetary Health symposium

UOC President Josep A. Planell is to participate in the first Planetary Health symposium, organized by the UOC together with Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), on the topic of a new paradigm uniting the health of people and the planet.

The symposium, which will be held in magazine format, aims to analyse the sustainable development goals from the point of view of the interconnection between humans and the planet. This initiative is intended to tackle the concept of planetary health and its implications, deal with issues such as climate change and biodiversity, and bring together people interested in this new paradigm to take on the challenges that the global climate and environmental crisis poses to our societies.

During the symposium, Cristina O'Callaghan and Josep Maria Antó will present and give an in-depth explanation of the University Master's Degree in Planetary Health that they direct.

Environmental journalist and science communicator Cori Calero will host the event, which will be followed via the UOC's YouTube channel.

The event will also involve Oriol Amat, rector of the UPF, Antoni Plasència, director of ISGlobal, and planetary health experts: Howard Frumkin, Senior Vice President at The Trust for Public Land and Professor Emeritus of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington School of Public Health; F.Xavier Medina, full professor of social anthropology at the UOC; Mireia Gascon, biologist, researcher and coordinator of the postnatal follow-up of the Barcelona Life Study Cohort (BiSC); and Carlos Alberto Faerron, co-founder and current director of the InterAmerican Center for Global Health (CISG).

Moreover, the master's degree students Sofía Bustos, nutritionist and founder of the non-profit organization Corporación Actuemos, and Fernando Wang physiotherapist specialized in cardiorespiratory rehabilitation will participate in the event.
