The members of the Working Group on Research and Higher Education of the Four Motors for Europe organize a side event of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2021, with the theme “Top Regional Challenges in European Higher Education”. The event will aim at discussing top global challenges in Higher Education from a regional perspective, and share insights on the regional strategies to face them.
Pastora Martínez Samper, Vice President of Globalization and Cooperation at UOC and Coordinator of the 2030 Agenda Working Group of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia, will take part in this side event which will be held on October 13 and will have an online format through Zoom. To attend, it is necessary to register on the link. A keynote lecture by Uwe Brandenburg, general director of the Global Impact Institute, will offer the starting point for the discussion panels.
The side event will contribute to the Conference on the Future of Europe, as it is this year’s priority, and it is based on the idea that higher education institutions are key to promoting sustainability. As drivers of change, they must actively participate in the dissemination of the ecological transition and the SDGs in general, and must enhance achievements both internally, through research, teaching, the arts and curricular programs, and externally, providing a platform where the different interest groups meet and create strategic alliances.
Moreover, there will be a “local dialogue”, with 3 parallel sessions, with 4 panellists in each session, about internationalization, sustainability and abilities to share experiences obtained from the interregional cooperation of the 4 Motors for Europe. Martínez Samper will participate in the panel “The imperative to transform through SDGs: how, who?”, which is about how universities can contribute to achieve sustainability through education, investigation and acting as models for society.
