Open knowledge: debunking myths

In celebration of International Open Access Week 2021 (25 to 31 October), we are organizing a session to talk about open knowledge and debunk the myths surrounding open publishing.

The UOC has recently approved a new open knowledge policy, which reaffirms its commitment in this area and consolidates its support for the globally spreading open model. In practice, how can the academic community publish openly, what are the main challenges they face and what support do they receive from the institution?

This practical talk aims to answer these questions and more, and will do so by debunking the following myths:

  • Myth 1: publishing openly is more expensive.
  • Myth 2: publishing openly does not count towards my career.
  • Myth 3: my data can be stolen.
  • Myth 4: we cannot ensure good use of the data.

We will also go over the resources and support services for open publishing offered by the UOC's administrative departments.

Target audience: UOC faculty.

Speakers:

  • Pastora Martínez Samper, Vice President for Globalization and Cooperation.
  • Juliana Elisa Raffaghelli, professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences and Ramón y Cajal research fello
