2. What are cookies?

Cookies are text files that are downloaded to the user's terminal or device (computer, tablet, mobile phone, etc.) and stored in their browser's memory. These files can serve very different purposes, such as recognizing you as a user, obtaining information about your browsing habits, or personalizing the way in which the content is displayed.

3. What types of cookies does the UOC use?

The cookies used by the UOC can be classified into the following types.

Depending on the organization that manages them:

First-party. These are cookies that are sent to the user's terminal from a computer or domain managed by the UOC.
Third-party. These are cookies that are sent to the user's terminal from a computer or domain not managed or controlled by the UOC. They are sent by a third-party domain, which processes the data obtained from the cookies.

Depending on the period of time they remain enabled:

Session. These cookies collect data while the user browses the UOC website in order to provide the service requested. They expire or are deleted within a short period of time, or when the browser is closed.
Persistent. These are stored on the user's terminal for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which can range from a few minutes to several years depending on the purpose of the cookie.

4. What are cookies used for at the UOC?

Technical or strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for the optimal functioning of this website and cannot be disabled from our systems. They are generally configured to respond to actions you take to receive services, such as adjusting your privacy preferences, logging into the website or filling in forms. You can set up your browser to alert you to the presence of these cookies or to block them. However, you will not be able to access some sections of the website and some features will not be available. These cookies do not store any personal information.

Analytics or measurement cookies

These cookies enable the UOC to count the visits and sources of traffic to measure and improve the performance of our website. They help us to find out which pages are popular, and to see how many people visit our website. All the information these cookies collect is aggregated.

Preference or personalization cookies

These cookies let us improve the functionality and enable personalization of the website. They may be set up by the UOC or by third parties whose services we have added to our website. Some of our services may not work properly if you do not accept these cookies.

Targeted advertising cookies

These cookies store information on users' behaviour obtained through ongoing observation of their browsing habits, which allows a specific profile to be created in order to display advertising based on this behaviour. 6. How can I control how cookies are used by the UOC?

These settings can be changed at any time. Bear in mind that your selections in both the cookie settings panel and your browser settings are specific to the browser you are using. 7. International transfers

The UOC has a number of providers that assist it with various tasks and they may be located outside the European Union or European Economic Area. In these cases, the appropriate protection and security measures will be adopted in each case and in strict compliance with the provisions of current legislation on data protection and, in particular, with article 45 et seq. of the GDPR. 8. Data retention period

Personal data will be processed according to the purpose of each cookie, and for the time strictly necessary to achieve those purposes. You can consult the cookies, their name, purpose and retention period.

Once the period necessary to achieve the purposes mentioned above has ended, the UOC shall retain the blocked personal data for the period necessary to comply with any legal obligations that may arise in relation to the aforementioned purposes. Once these obligations no longer apply, the personal data will be permanently deleted.
