Diversity support

The UOC's mission is to make higher education accessible to everyone, at any point in life, regardless of their personal circumstances. This is possible thanks to our flexible and personalized educational model, which places support and inclusion at the heart of the learning experience.

Inclusion: resources and accommodations

At the UOC, we are committed to inclusion and diversity support by accompanying students with disabilities or special educational needs throughout their academic journey. To maximize their potential and remove barriers, we identify each person's profile to offer personalized guidance and accommodations, while advising the entire educational community to ensure a fully accessible university tailored to their needs.

We are committed to facilitating access and academic progress for students with disabilities, specific educational needs, or unforeseen circumstances

How does the UOC adapt to your special needs?

A sign of this commitment is the Inclusion and Wellbeing Service (SIB), dedicated to accompanying and serving people in this group, as well as advising and supporting tutors, teaching staff, and other UOC professionals involved in their university journey. How does the UOC adapt to your special needs?

A specialized help service

At the UOC, we work hard to ensure that no limitations stand in the way of learning and career advancement. That's why we have a specialized team that provides personalized support and the knowledge and resources needed to ensure that we are an inclusive university able to cater to all personal situations.

A fully accessible university

We provide a set of resources and offer accommodations to ensure full accessibility for your studies:

  • Teaching adaptations. Your tutor will provide you with personalized support and guidance so you can keep up with your courses under the best possible conditions. Each case is assessed individually, but here are some examples of the adaptations we can provide:
    • Adjusting the pace of work in accordance with your needs or offering flexible submission deadlines.
    • Presenting course materials in a variety of formats to ensure they're as accessible as possible. If you have a hearing or visual impairment, you can ask for the learning resources to be adapted in accordance with your particular needs.

Once you've completed your enrolment, you can request the adaptation at Procedures / Other procedures / Teaching adaptations for people with special educational needs.

  • Adaptations for final assessment tests, such as accessible classrooms, extra time for tests or alternative formats for tests and resources based on your specific needs.

You can request these adaptations at Procedures / Assessment and final tests / Adaptations to final tests for people with specific needs.

  • Virtual Campus accessibility standards: Various parts of the Virtual Campus have been designed to meet international accessibility guidelines, adapting the web content to people with specific educational support needs and making it easier for you to find your way around. In the Accessibility section, you can find out how we comply with the W3C consortium's WAI-AA standards (www.w3c.org/wai).
  • Inclusive in-person events: If you participate in on-site events, such as the graduation ceremony or activities at the UOC centres, you can request a reserved parking space, sign language interpreters, ramps and reserved entry, among other facilities, when you register to attend.
What specific discounts are you eligible for?

If you're a student on an official programme and have a disability level of 33% or more, you're entitled to discounts on enrolment and certain procedures. Furthermore, 5% of places on bachelor's and university master's degrees are reserved for students in your situation.

You can find more information about the discounts at Procedures / Discounts / People with disabilities and victims of terrorism or violence against women.

Wellbeing: Telematics Psychological Care Service

Mental health is key to your success. We offer an online psychological care service, fully free and confidential, for all students experiencing emotional distress that affects their performance or academic experience:

  • Adaptation issues (changes in residence, work, or family circumstances).
  • Disruptions to daily routines (sleep patterns, ongoing stress).
  • Emotional reactions to academic activities and assessment tasks.
  • Life events that may cause stress (health problems, major life changes, grieving processes, relationship issues…).

You will find the application form under More UOC > Connected with your needs > Inclusion and Wellbeing.
