Student Guide 2025/2026

Put what you have learned into practice

External academic internships are a unique opportunity to find out about workplace realities in your field. They are a chance to apply and consolidate competencies and learning from your programme of study, and bring you into contact with the professional world.

What types of internships are there?

External internships are split into the following two categories, depending on whether or not they are part of your programme of study:

Curricular internships

These courses are part of the programme of study of a bachelor's or master's degree. At More UOC / Programmes of study, you can find out if your studies require internships and how long they last, which is determined by the number of credits in the internship course. Once you have been assigned your internship placement, you will have to enrol on the course, in the same way as you do with the other courses. Internships are courses designed to let students put their theoretical knowledge into practice, applying what they've learned from their other courses to a specific job. To ensure that the internship runs in accordance with the agreed-upon learning objectives, your progress is monitored by a professional from the host organization, who serves as your tutor within the placement, and by an academic tutor. The application process, requirements and duration of curricular internships vary depending on the programme. See the details for each programme at Procedures / Internships in companies / Curricular internships.

Non-curricular internships

These internships are voluntary, preferably take place during the academic year, and are not part of any programme of study. They must be related to the studies you are taking, and you must be enrolled to be able to do them. If you want to know the maximum duration of the internship depending on the programme, the requirements you must meet to be able to do them and what you have to do to apply for them, you can find all the information at Procedures / Internships in companies / Non-curricular internships.

How are internships administered?

If you meet the requirements and are within the deadline, you must register for the call using the UOC's internship tool

On this platform you will find the internship offers published by centres, organizations, companies and institutions that you are eligible for. You can apply for the offers that interest you, or you can alsopropose a place where you can do the internship if you have found it yourself.

When you have been assigned the place, and after enrolling on the course if you are doing a curricular internship, the education cooperation agreement is arranged and signed.

Throughout the internship period, you will make social security contributions and be covered by an accident insurance policy arranged by the Fundació per a la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (FUOC).
