Students in the Food Systems and Governance Postgraduate Diploma programme will analyse systems that govern agriculture and food internationally.
The programme begins by exploring key issues in food studies, conceptualising food systems and contextualising the trade of agri-food commodities. Students will also learn skills and methods of research and policy analysis.
The programme then applies these competencies to an inquiry into international food law and the analysis of institutions and agreements such as the World Trade Organization, World Health Organization, Codex Alimentarius, International Organization for Standards, International Plant Protection Convention and the World Organization for Animal Health.
This programme also considers some of the socio-economic and cultural factors that influence the regulation of agri-food products including trade liberalization, genetic modification, distribution, food security, food sovereignty, public participation, globalisation, localisation and climate change. The objective of this programme is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to analyse issues related to international food governance so as to be more effective in their professional pursuits.
