The European Quality Assurance Network for Informatics Education (EQANIE) awarded the Euro-Inf international accreditation to six core training courses in the UOC's Faculty of Computer Science, Multimedia and Telecommunications in recognition of the quality of its training and research work. The programmes are the bachelor’s degrees in Multimedia, Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications Technology, and the university master’s degrees in Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, and Multimedia Applications.
The article Students' Attitude towards ICT Learning Uses: A Comparison between Digital Learners in Blended and Virtual Universities co-authored by Iolanda Garcia, professor in the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, received the Best Research Paper award from the European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN).
The collective work La indústria catalana després de la crisi (Catalan industry after the economic crisis), co-written by Joan Torrent-Sellens, professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, received the Joan Sardà Dexeus Award, which recognizes the book’s influence on the economy and business.
The GSMA has published a case study on iUOC, the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) project that has studied the potential offered by mobile devices to aid learning, and the iPad in particular. Bringing together over 800 mobile operators from 219 countries worldwide, the GSMA association is the world benchmark in mobile telephony and is responsible for organising the Mobile Congress, the leading mobile telephony trade fair, held every year in Barcelona. The case study is recognition of the UOC as a pioneering university in the use of mobile technology for higher education.
The prize organized by Catalan Association of Sociology (ACS) of the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC) was awarded to Lídia Arroyo, a UOC research assistant. She received the prize for her work Joven para plegar y mayor para buscar trabajo (Too young to quit and too old to look for work), an analysis of long-term unemployment in women aged 45 and over.
Gartner, a world-leading information technology research and consultancy firm, has published a study of the success of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC). This analysis of the UOC by Gartner highlights the technological evolution it has led in the field of learning, validating and stressing the value of the work that the University has undertaken since its foundation in 1995.
The project "iUOC: Enhanced Mobile Learning at the UOC", which aims to take the Virtual Campus of the UOC to new portable and interactive platforms such as iPad, received the bronze award in the 2011 Learning Impact Awards from the IMS Global Learning Consortium. The Learning Impact Awards recognize the most powerful and influential uses of technology for the purpose of improving education.
Teresa Iribarren, professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, received the Nicolau d'Olwer philology prize from the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC) for best doctoral thesis. The winning thesis was titled: La revolució silenciosa: prosa i narrativa cinematogràfiques dels silent days. (The silent revolution: cinematographic prose and narrative from the silent days).
The MyWay project, developed by professionals from the UOC, won the 2006 IGC award for Digital Innovation in the category of projects by universities and institutions, granted by the Internet Global Congress. The IGC awards for Digital Innovation have as their objective the recognition and rewarding of talent and progress of both companies and professionals or university students who present innovative technology-based projects in the field of information and communication technologies, specifically in the digital area.
Aura Esther Vilalta, professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science, received the Prize of Honour from the European Council for Rural Law (CEDR) for her book El derecho de superficie: la superfície rústica (The right to land: rural land).
The UOC's communications plan was awarded the "Best Internal Communications Strategy" Award by the Catalan Guild of Journalists. These awards are to recognize and promote the work of offices of communication and the people who work in them, as well as the efforts in the public and private sector to provide access to useful and truthful information. The award highlighted the communications plan's wide scope.
