Can companies help wipe out hunger? What’s the relationship between peace, justice and stable institutions? How does climate change affect the business world? What role can and must companies play in these 17 goals? To discuss these and other issues, the UOC and UNESCO Etxea have organized the conference entitled “Incorporate the 2030 Agenda into your company’s strategy. Keys to sustainable development" due to take place on 24 January, at Yimby in Bilbao.

Isabel Garro, an international expert in the 2030 Agenda and special advisor of the Spanish High Commission for the 2030 Agenda, and Àngels Fitó, director of the UOC Faculty of Economics and Business, will open the session with the conversation “Més enllà de l’RSC, la integració de l’Agenda 2030 en les empreses” (Beyond CSR, the integration of the 2030 Agenda into companies). They will discuss the principles and values of responsible companies and how incorporating the UN's ten Global Compact principles into their strategies, policies and procedures not only contributes to ensuring their responsibilities towards society and the planet, but also to their long-term success.

The round table, “Reptes i oportunitats de les empreses per a contribuir al desenvolupament sostenible” (Challenges and opportunities facing companies in contributing to sustainable development), featuring the participation of business experts, will promote companies’ commitment to the sustainability of the planet and highlight success stories from this field.

“To achieve the sustainable development goals, we all have to play our part and the UOC doesn't want to be left out”, stated Pastora Martínez Samper, UOC Vice President for Globalization and Cooperation. “With this conference, the University is contributing to raising awareness about the 2030 Agenda and strengthening relations with various agents in the Basque Country, such as UNESCO Etxea and the business sector”.

The conference is aimed at the business sector and organizations in the Basque Country, as well as anyone who wants to know more about how important it is for companies to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. Attendance at the conference is free, but you need to register.
