Next Monday 9 December will take place the research seminar Learning by doing: perception of accounting by different accounting models, by Eve Lamberg, PhD candidate of the programme "Doctoral Curriculum in Management" at the Estonian Business School. Since last October, Eve Lamberg is doing an internship at the eLearn Center, which will finish at the end of December.

The seminar will present the preliminary results of the research "Perception of financial accounting process by the conceptual accounting model".

About her presentation, which will focus on the idea of learning by doing in the area of accounting, Eve Lamberg argues that although computerized accounting information system (AIS) has replaced manual accounting activities in organizations, entrepreneurship students experience difficulty with the accounting knowledge acquisition with information technology (IT) resulting in a negative perception.

Students should have learning experiences in real world settings. The main challenge for educators is to create the appropriate learning environment which reflects the real world of the entrepreneurs. “Learning by doing” pedagogy is fundamental in education for entrepreneurship. The need to study what is experienced to be relevant accounting knowledge is urgent. Research can create discussion and understanding between different interest groups. Eve have modified the traditional accounting cycle and developed an AIS model. The successful implementation of the AIS model with spreadsheet IT is an indication of problem solving in learning.

The research is part of the doctoral thesis of Eve Lamberg, Doctoral Program “Doctoral Curriculum in Management” at the a Estonian Business School, Estonia, and whose supervision at the UOC is under the responsibility of Dr. Josep M. Batalla, professor of the Business and Economics Studies of UOC and coordinator of the Management & e-Learning (MeL) Research Group.

Eve Lamberg is professor of the Accounting and Finance Department at the Estonian Business School since 1997. She is professor of accounting for entrepreneurs. In 2009 and 2010 her course “Financial accounting e-course” was awarded by the Estonian e-Learning Development Centre.
