#GSUOC
The UOC’s Globalization and Cooperation department is organizing a new series of talks on Building a global, social UOC to discuss a range of topics related to the 2017-2020 Action Plan. Every other month, we will be inviting local and/or international experts to come to the UOC to share their knowledge and have a discussion with us all. We hope that this series of talks will contribute to thinking about the globalization model and the social responsibility and impact we aim to promote at the UOC.
The first session organised by the University in January will be «Discover the international Science Shops movement. Talk with Emma McKenna (Queen’s University Belfast) and Jozefien de Marrée (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)».

Program
Science Shops have been emerging at universities over the last 30 years, especially in central and northern Europe. They act as places to transfer knowledge between universities and society, offering independent and participative research in response to society's needs.
For more in-depth knowledge of the Science Shops concept and how they work, and to debate whether starting one could be of interest to the UOC, we will be talking to two highly experienced Science Shop coordinators: Emma McKenna, director of the Queen’s University Belfast Science Shop, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and Jozefien de Marrée from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel Science Shop. They both currently coordinate the European enRRIch (Enhancing Responsible Research and Innovation through Curricula in Higher Education) project, which fosters the introduction of training in responsible research and innovation (RRI) in university curricula.
In light of the great challenges facing our societies, recent years have seen intense debate regarding the role that research has to play to tackle and solve them. In line with European nomenclature, the debate has gone from research for society, through research in society, to the present term of research with and for society. In the search for new instruments that enable research to be brought in line as much as possible with the needs of societies by making it both more responsive and more responsible, various initiatives have sprung up all over Europe and the rest of the world.
This conference is open to the whole of the UOC community and anyone with an interest in the fields of university and research.
*This session will be in English with no interpreting service.
Participation is open and free. Places are limited.
