Citizen science hackaton: public policies + design justice

Citizen science is today acknowledged as an important strategy in scientific, social and political spheres. The trades union OTRAS and the Platform Trans*forma la Salut are examples of good practices that have made an important impact on the field of public policies. In a more institutional setting, the Citizen Science Office in Barcelona and its projects have a long history, but there is still a lot to do in relation to the return of the data in the form of proposals for action.

In the context of the City and Science Biennial, we propose to you hacking the format of a parliamentary simulation with the principles of design justice, a perspective that focuses on the way design reproduces or challenges the matrices of control. Thus, organized in committees, we shall begin with citizen science projects with the aim of working with the results so that the knowledge, structured through civic initiatives, may serve to generate policies for the city and the community by the public authorities or by any other agent with regulatory competence.
