Technical issues

To study at the UOC, you need a desktop or laptop computer with an internet connection. The computer should be comfortably able to run the latest version of the internet browsers that we recommend below, plus office software (word processor, spreadsheets, etc.).

For assessment, you must have a computer with the permissions needed to install the online supervision software and any necessary updates.

Operating systems
Windows
For best results, the recommended operating system is Windows 11, duly updated.

Using Windows 10 may limit functionality or lead to technical issues, especially during final tests with online supervision. The university cannot guarantee the correct functioning of the system or the absence of technical problems in these cases. Please note that Windows 10 no longer receives update support from Microsoft.
Linux
For best results, the recommended operating systems are Ubuntu 20, Ubuntu 22 and Mint 21.

Because of the great variety of versions available, we do not specify all of them. In some cases, you'll need to use a Windows emulator.
MacOS
For best results, the recommended operating system is macOS Ventura 13 or higher.

Using macOS Big Sur 11.7 may limit functionality or lead to technical issues, especially during final tests with online supervision. The university cannot guarantee the correct functioning of the system or the absence of technical issues in these cases.
Mobile devices Android 10 or iOS 16 or higher

Browsers (we recommend having the latest version installed)
Windows
Recommended browsers:
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
MacOS
Recommended browsers: Google Chrome

Safari is not recommended and does not support the final assessment tests.
Linux Recommended browsers: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
Mobile devices
Android: Chrome.
iOS: Safari.

Hardware and internet connection
Devices You must have a webcam (external or integrated in the computer), a microphone and a second device with a camera (a smartphone or tablet). To position this second device with a camera, you may need a tripod or a stand, depending on where you take the assessment activity. Some courses may require speakers.
RAM For best results, we recommend 8 GB or more of RAM.
Internet connection You can use any broadband service: fibre optic, ADSL, mobile data or satellite. A stable connection of at least 10 Mbps is advisable.

Metered mobile phone connections (by data consumption) are not recommended for downloading materials or software.

Although the latest versions of the browsers that we recommend above come with many of the add-ons needed, we recommend you install the latest versions of the following programs:

Adobe Reader: to open and view PDF materials. You can download it free from www.get.adobe.com/es/reader.

Java: to run some interactive materials. You can download it from www.java.com/es.

Hardware Operating systems
  • 64-bit Intel/AMD architecture
  • At least 8 GB of memory
  • Between 40 and 80 GB of disk space
Windows Windows 11 or 10
GNU/Linux Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian. Because of the wide variety of distributions available, we haven't listed all the possible versions here. You'll need to use an emulator (such as VirtualBox) in some cases.

For Apple, you'll need a device with Apple silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4), but bear in mind that you may not be able to use all the course software. With this in mind, we recommend having an alternative available.

Some courses use Jamovi and Labster software that are not compatible with 32-bit Windows operating systems. Check the specific requirements.
